I love to watch the storm clouds roll through the valley that my workshop overlooks and will often see the Sea Gulls retreat just a little further inland for some shelter from the those looming clouds. It's this mix that actually makes a wonderful sight - their white feathers become almost luminous against the dark grey clouds behind them. As they swirl in frenzied circles you can see them clearer that ever before! These moments on a grey day are the perfect reminder to look beyond the grey and although dark clouds may be overhead, flashes of beauty will find their way through!
This circular pendant measures 2.3cm wide. The circular shape reminded me of their swirling dance. The pendant features a small flock of 3 birds, each bird is hand cut from Sterling Silver, no one is the same. They are positioned off centre and at different angles to give a sense of perspective , making each necklace one of a kind, just like a real flock of birds. The pendant has a squared edge to it, making the background recessed - the top edge of this is polished. The background is treated with an oxidising solution that turns it back and all shades from that to dark grey, just as I see in those storm clouds! The birds are polished, they shine bright and reflect the light beautifully, just as their feathers do on the crest of the hill. The remainder of the pendant, including the back and the bail is finished with a brushed texture, as a beautiful contrast to the polish and oxidised elements.
